Lea Valley Park
An international design competition entry for a new park strategy and concept, extending over a complex and run-down area along the Lower Lea Valley from the Olympic site to the River Thames.
Our concept for the park was to create an energy park focussing on nature, the surrounding city and the Olympics. Streams of energy derived from natural sources, people/social energy, movement, innovation/enterprise and power generation, were proposed through the length of the park to provide continuity, structure and character. Within these streams the park would combine the river landscape and the area's cultural and industrial heritage with innovation, ecological balance and energy for life through sports and recreation.
This concept allowed us to knit together the park areas and adjacent urban fabric, helping establish a strong north-south link and make a much needed connectivity through the valley.
The entry was selected as one of the two finalists.
