Clacton Schools PFI

A successful PFI project for Essex County Council to deliver a new secondary school and sixth form and two refurbished schools in Clacton-on-Sea.

The concept for the new school was to create a number of sub-schools and recreational areas within a college campus ethos. External spaces took inspiration from coastal landscapes and included a nature study area and energy park, an outdoor performance area and sports facilities. Consultation was carried out with pupils and staff and the brief required inclusion of art works and the creation of an attractive and stimulating external environment using the principles of ‘Learning Through Landscapes’.

The new school was winner in the RIBA Spirit of East of England Ingenuity Awards and was one of five schools in the UK to win an award for ‘Excellence in Design’ from 4Ps.
